[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_text_separator title=”Four Research Strands” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]Ethereal Materials contains four key sections: Yuriwaka, an adaptation project; Field Notes, critical reflections on VR performance; World Mapping, understanding virtual worlds; Dissemination, publishing the research.
1. Yuriwaka: A VR adaptation of a 16th century kowakamai dance text
Translation into English of a 16th century text from the Japanese recitative dance form Kowakamai. The text will be adapted into a mixed media VR installation, which will have at its core, the problem of “being there”.
2. Field Notes: reflections on VR performance
The fields notes section consists of short critical interventions on current theatre work in VR. It is a reflective journal that combines personal reflections on performance experiences combined with key concepts from current academic and journalistic literature on VR performance. The notes are published on my Substack.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”4015″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]
3. World Mapping: tracking performance worlds
A key part of this project is attempting to understand what constitutes a virtual world in the context of VR theatre. Mapping different worlds by recording their key attributes will help gain insight in that regard.
4. Dissemination: outputs from the research
The fourth segment of the project is disseminating the research. This will take the form of conference paper presentation, colloquiums, and journal articles.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
